About this game

Tile Chorus is a calm but sneaky memory game. A route of glass tiles lights up one tile at a time, and each tile plays its own note as it glows. When the last tile fades, it is your turn: trace the same route, in the same order, before the timer bar runs out. Get it right and the next route is longer.

The game starts on a three by three grid so you can learn the rhythm. As you level up, the grid grows to four by four and then five by five, the routes get longer, the tiles light up a little faster and the timer gets tighter. The game is laid out for an upright 3:4 frame, so the full five by five grid fits on a phone held upright. If the game is shown in a very small window, the grid stays smaller so every tile is still easy to hit, and the longer routes and tighter timer keep the challenge going. Every level is a brand new random route, so you can only get better at remembering. Three mistakes end the run.

You do not need to see colour to play. Every tile on the grid has its own symbol, such as a star, a heart, a moon, a lightning bolt or a crown, and the colours come from a palette chosen to stay distinct for colour-blind players. Every tile also has its own note: the pitch rises from the top-left tile to the bottom-right tile, and each row has a different kind of sound, from a soft pure tone on the top row to a buzzy one and an organ-like one further down. You can remember a route by its symbols, by its tune, or by both. Tiles light up at a gentle pace, less than twice a second.

Tip: say the symbols to yourself while you watch, like star, moon, crown. Another tip: listen to whether the tune climbs or falls. Your best score is saved in your browser, so you can come back later and try to beat it.
